Now I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this latest news. I read online the other day that the number of people using online estate agents over local ones has increased dramatically in the last 12 months. A big benefit of many of these online estate agents is that they charge a fixed fee, which when compared to the hefty commission of selling/buying price that the local estate agents often demand, can result in a huge saving for the client. But I do question how reliable these online estate agents are, given that you don’t need any qualifications to be one, and anyone can set up a website.
Are these online estate agents actually big companies or are they a middle-aged person sat in the office of their parent’s house making a quick buck by simply listing people’s houses on the big property listing sites and calling themselves an online estate agent for the privilege. It’s very difficult to tell on the internet alone, but at the end of the day, if they get your house sold who really cares?
I believe online estate agents are the way forward, and let’s hope that the fixed fee estate agent is also the way of the future.
